BROUSSARD, La. — Temporary accommodations provider HB Rentals has completed the delivery and installation of a four module ABS/USCG package for a tension leg platform, TLP, located in the Gulf of Mexico. The package will support the project for the next year by providing additional sleeping quarters for 48 people on the TLP.

The client approached HB about adding additional sleeping quarters to their TLP. HB, having worked on previous projects for this client, was able to quickly put together some module options and get the process started quickly. The business development and operations teams then worked closely with the client to workout module layouts and safety requirements. It was agreed upon by all parties that utilizing four of HB’s ABS/USCG 12-Man Sleeper Modules would be the best solution. This would provide bunks for 48 people and individual lockers for storage of personal items. In addition each module contains two showers, two toilets, and three sinks.

There was limited deck space for the temporary accommodations modules on the TLP. The client provided HB’s in house engineering and design team a deck drawing of the area where they wanted the modules to be placed. Utilizing that drawing and their expertise HB’s engineers were able to provide solution that met both the limited space and safety needs of the project. The engineering team accomplished this by stacking the modules in a two by two configuration. This reduced the foot print of the temporary accommodations package from four modules on the deck to just two. They also utilized a caged ladder versus the standard stairway as a means of egress from the top level to the deck to reduce the foot print of the package.

After some minor adjustments to the design the client was ready to move forward. The next step in the process was to perform a Factory Acceptance Test of the equipment. At HB’s facility in Broussard, LA, with the client present, the modules and auxiliary equipment were setup in the exact configuration that the equipment will be in once installed on location and tested to make sure all equipment connects and functions properly. In the following weeks the equipment was transported to the TLP where HB offshore supervisor oversaw the installation of the temporary accommodations package. The equipment will now support the project for the next twelve months in the Gulf of Mexico.
